How to Revive Doha with Some Chance of Success
ECIPE Policy Brief No. 04/2009
The WTO’s Doha Round of trade negotiations is not working. Recent efforts to revive negotiations have not yielded any results. G20 leaders have been issuing series of statements about the importance to finish the negotiations, but they have fallen flat on the ground. After eight years of fruitless negotiations, it is time to try a new approach. In a new paper, Roderick Abbott – the former Deputy Director General of the WTO – argues that WTO members need to go back to the drawing board to come up with alternative approaches to the negotiations. Abbott also launches his own approach based on simplification and re-scaled ambitions.
