Peter Kleen is a Senior Fellow of ECIPE and a trade policy consultant. He was formerly (1992–2004) Director General of the National Board of Trade in Sweden. The Board is a governmental agency in Sweden with the main task of providing the Swedish government with trade policy analyses, strategic proposals and recommendations. Before this, he worked as Senior Trade Policy Adviser in the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs (1991–1992) and as Project Manager for the Uruguay Round in the Federation of Swedish Industries (1989–1991).
Mr. Kleen has worked over 30 years in public service. During that time he served as an adviser and trade policy expert in Swedish official delegations to meetings in OECD, GATT, WTO and UNCTAD.
He has also publicized widely on policy issues relating to international trade, globalization and developing countries. His most recent publications include "Special and Differential Treatment of Developing Countries in the World Trade Organization" (EGDI, Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Sweden, 2004) together with Sheila Page. He also recently headed a working group which produced the report "Social Progress in Developing Countries" (Global Challenge, Stockholm, 2006).
Mr. Kleen is a member of the Swedish Society for International Affairs and of the roster of the WTO indicative list of governmental and non-governmental panelists.
