Hosuk Lee-Makiyama is co-Director of the European Centre for International Political Economy (ECIPE). Before joining ECIPE, he was the Senior Advisor on WTO issues to the EU Presidency of Sweden in 2009, serving in Geneva as EU Council Chair on services, intellectual property, customs-technical issues and their related UN/WTO-bodies. He also served on the executive committee of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).
He was Head of EU Affairs of Swedish Trade Council based in Brussels, which acts as the commercial section of all Brussels-based embassies. He was also partner and managing partner of strategy consultancy in Stockholm for 7 years, advising multinational corporate clients on market strategy, distribution and market access. Between 2000 and 2001, he served on the board of US ad agency group Leo Burnett's subsidiaries in Scandinavia, working with 7 of world's ten largest consumer brands.
Lee-Makiyama's research areas include trade & technology, WTO and intellectual property. His academic record includes Political Economy at London School of Economics, Law at University of Stockholm, Economics & Business Administration at Stockholm School of Economics and Trade Policy at Harvard Kennedy School.
