What are the Prospects for Reforming EU Agricultural Policies?
Agriculture has returned to the top of the European policy agenda. The global rise in food prices has pushed the EU to suspend some agricultural tariffs, and the ongoing "health check" of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) has begun the process of scrutinising the EU farm subsidy regime, a process that will continue under the review of the European budget. The Doha Round of trade negotiations may have stalled for now, but pressure to reform European agricultural policies may be generated by these negotiations--or perhaps by WTO litigation--in the future.
We are pleased to invite you to a lunch seminar to debate the prospects for reform of the CAP. As a long-time observer and commentator on EU agriculture policy, Roger Waite, the editor of AGRA FACTS and AGRA FOCUS and a fellow with the German Marshall Fund (GMF), will lead a discussion of how various reform strategies could resonate with politicians and the public and likely developments in EU agricultural policy in the future.
The event is supported by the German Marshall Fund.
