EU-Asia Trade Relations
EU-Asia trade relations have deepened considerably in the last decade and the two continents are set on the path to further economic integration as Europe-Asian trade is increasing at an unprecedented pace. What is more, the European Union is currently investigating the prospects for starting new negotiations over Free Trade Agreements (FTA) with a number of countries in Asia. Thus, the ten member countries in ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) are currently discussing with the EU the framework of a possible trade agreement.
What are the prospects for an EU-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement: will it lead to substantial changes in bilateral (or regional) trade relations? How does such an FTA interplay with broader trade strategies in Europe and Southeast Asia? What is the broad trade strategy encompassing Southeast Asia today? What are likely to become the main problems?
It gives us great pleasure to invite you to a seminar on EU-Asia trade relations with Dr. Mari Pangestu, the Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, as the key-note speaker. Dr. Pangestu has for long been a leading thinker on trade policies in East Asia, and she now plays a major role in shaping Southeast Asian trade policies
